Making a purse organizer/wallet

I have been looking at purse organizers. This looks cool:

Unfortunately, I have a small purse and these wouldn’t fit. I was browsing the internet looking at different purse organizers and of course I looked at tutorials on blogs and youtube also. I actually considered shopping for a larger purse so that I could buy or make an organizer.

Thinking about it I decided that I would keep my small purse and make something that works for me at this time. The problems I identified were: losing my small black phone in my purse, my work badge taking up a lot of space, and not being able to see my dollar bills. This Spring I accidently tipped someone $100 bill when I meant to leave a $1 and I didn’t realize it until hours later. On a spiritual level I think that person was meant to have extra money coming in, but I still need to be able to see my money in the dark environs of my bag. I had a small plastic envelope that I put in my purse so I could see my cash, but that was getting frayed and worn.

I also had some stiff fusible interfacing (from years ago making fabric bowls).  I fused fabric to the interfacing, made a couple pockets on the back for my phone and some cards and trimmed the vinyl, added binding by machine.  It is actually a little long for the interior of my purse, but the slight curve makes it easier to retrieve my phone.
This isn't fancy but it will do for now and I will see about purchasing or making a more elaborate organizer when I finally get a bigger purse

Practicing

I am working on putting my hexagon quilt together. I wanted to quilt on the longarm, but I have a couple tops I need to get borders on first. I think it has been 6 weeks since I have done much with the longarm, and boy do I feel rusty.

I put some practice scraps on the frame and worked on a flower motif. Usually the quilting looks much better than my sketching but it isn’t there yet. Fun to be quilting again, though.

Fabrics for Bee Mystery Quilt Selected

I was on the road again last week.  It was very hot and humid in Washington DC.  I came home and did very little....read a novel, sewed on my hexi quilt, relaxed.

I did pick out my fabrics for the mystery quilt my bee is doing, though I didn't do any sewing on it.

Hexigon Quilt

After all my travels (3 back to back trips 23 days, followed by a full week at work) it felt good to have a quiet weekend. I didn’t get as much done as I hoped, but I made headway. One of the downsides to all the travel – I had instructions for the first step of a mystery quilt our bee is doing, but I couldn’t find them. So I tried a new little hexagon quilt, and then I found the instructions. Well next weekend I will put together the mystery segment one.

Missouri Star Quilt Company had a youtube video of this ruler and I thought I would try it.

I also ordered a jellyroll of Kona pastels. I don’t usually work with solids but I like how this is coming along and I hope I can do some cool quilting on it.

I have been travelling with my grandchildren

I spent one week out of town for work, and then went on a two week vacation with 4 of my grandchildren, my son, and daughter-in-law.

We went to Smokey Mountains National Park, Virginia Beach, Niagra Falls and then spent 5 days at Moosehead lake in Maine.  Lots of fun!
