Grandies Visiting!

Loralie and Kearstyn came to visit and we had such fun!  We swam almost every day and we did some crafting.  Kearstyn is turning into quite a cook and Loralie loves setting up dishes and playing hostess.  Pictures are animal wall hangings they made.  The patterns are from Wendi Gratz 's Craftsy Class Fusible Applique Made Easy.

 They chose their fabrics and I think they did a great job.  Kearstyn did all her own sewing but I helped Loralie a bit.

Making Little Quillts

My production has slowed.  I am still working on things but I am trying to do some original creations to put in my guild's silent auction in August.  I get frozen up sometimes, unsure if other's will like what I am doing or if I even like it...

I did a simple collage and quilted it on cream - but I forgot to take a picture and it's already turned in to the guild.  This is when I was just forming the leaders on parchment paper.  I will try and get a good picture at the show.

I've been playing with silk fusion and thought I'd make some flowers.  I couldn't find the background I wanted so put them on gray then decided I really needed the orange/peach background and I found it.  I will start quilting it today.

Painted Canvas Vase

My Celtic Solstice quilt is off the frame and I am binding it.  I took an IQuilt class from Katie Pasquini Masopust  Paint & Stitch: Vibrant Acrylic Quilts.  This is my work in progress.  I am enjoying the process.

I have a backlog of quilt tops to be quilted.  I chose this one because I think it would make a good comfort quilt for someone I love who is suffering right now. 

I finished this top in 2014 and I can see that my piecing has improved since then, but it is a very pretty quilt.  Pictured is what I am doing in the light areas.  I am not sure yet on how I will quilt the dark areas

Scrappy Trips is finished

I finished the quilt this week.  I have a goal of finishing at least one thing for show and tell at guild.  A bonus of the goal is that it makes it easier to get a good picture.  I am pleased at how this turned out. 

On The Frame - Scrappy Trips

I've been quilting my scrappy trips

I am quilting feathers in the rows between the dark squares and spirals with star points in the dark squares.  I am not stressing and ripping out.  This quilt is meant to be used not shown- there is no back tracking in the feathers and some traveling in the ditch.  If I jump out of the ditch and the thread shows, I am ignoring it. I hope to have it finished within a week

Trish Stuart Workshops

Trish Stuart spoke at our guild on Thursday, 1/12/17.  She is funny, with a warm and generous personality.  This is her website:Trish Stuart Designs

She taught two workshops and I attended both.  The first was Freedom in Motion and she supplied a kit for wool applique on linen.

Some in the class made more precise and very pretty renderings.  I made mine much more quickly with a carefree approach.  I really like it.  I know the horizon line is slanted but I will correct that in the squaring up.  I need to add the burlap ribbon and some embroidery and it will be finished.

She also supplied linen and we were able to make a second one without a pattern.  This is what I played with and I obviously have more work on the stitching and design.

The second day of workshops was her Curves Made Easy and there was a kit for this poppy pattern.  It is very striking with many colors and lots of browns and oranges. Excuse the masking tape.  The workshop was held at a vacant store in a mall and the window was the only place to hang her quilts.

Because it was a more complex class we learned the technique but didn't get far in the project.  Trish supplied a kit with fabrics similar to her original but I came home and my project morphed into an ice blue poppy.  I am really enjoying this but I need to pick out a background that goes with the color changes.  I am thinking something like a gray barn wood look but I need to go shopping/auditioning.

Not all of the fabric is sewn, some is glued, and some just pinned.  This is the kind of project that will need to mellow on the design wall for a while.
